Bridging Yesterday and Today
Dylan Patrick's music blends powerful lyrics with captivating sound. His guitar and voice create an engaging experience for everyone. He combines poetic lyrics drawing from personal experiences and the observations and stories gathered as he has traveled
the world with stimulating guitar accompaniment. |
"The grind of performing 70 shows in 75 days in China fortified my confidence. Performing seven days a week, I learned that I can climb on stage, plug in my guitar, and put together a great performance. Stoked, sick, tired, injured, it doesn't matter, I can deliver." - Dylan Patrick |
"It takes me to a good place. The music is stripped back and real. It transports me to an outdoor summer festival where I'm sitting under the trees with my friends and a beer, listening to you perform on stage. The recording really captures the live sound." - Jessica Worthing, Australia |
"I'm always looking to capture the essence, the truth of a
story or line of thought. Music, art, words, sound show us
where we've been, who we are, and where we can dream to go."
- Dylan Patrick
Let's Talk
Inspiration and Influences
I am often asked about who I was influenced by. I know people are looking for
the name of a person already known who they can filter my work through.
This immediately hampers the creation I am producing with preconceived notions.
I've handled this question in a variety of ways, but the following
is what I should have said:

I've handled this question in a variety of ways, but the following
is what I should have said:
I'm influenced by a broad range of artists spanning mediums, genre, time, and on a sliding scale of the famous and unknown. From Neil Young to Pearl Jam to Tracy Chapman to Monk. It is the work of the artists that I study, and the habits they project. It is the later that I find most useful to understand. |

It is a captivating experience to see and hear Dylan perform. His emotions and energy are authentic, engaging, moving. He gives all of himself.
He believes that the arts are an experience of endurance, "After performing 70 shows in 75 days in Western China (2014), performing every night, the grind really fortified my confidence that I can climb on stage, plug in my guitar and put together a great performance: sick, tired, injured- it doesn't matter, I can deliver.” Dylan is not a singular talent. He is a musician, a writer, a performer. Maybe he is a poet-warrior who combines all these facets of himself to be able to help people consider the world, raise questions, stimulate thought, and relay stories. He says, "It is a great work and responsibility. Too many want only the image and perceived glamour, the romanticism of this...we don't need anymore jute boxes.” |
Dylan's songs are anchored by thoughtfully crafted lyrics. For him, they are the heart of the song. The instrument-ation are helpful partners framing the scene and enhancing the moment.
|
“I'm proud of the albums I've made,” he said, when asked about the five separate recording experiences he has had. Dylan works diligently to create with honesty and soul, focusing on craftsmanship and not mechanical production. He deplores formula driven music. “I prefer the hand crafted piece of furniture and not a piece cranked out in a factory. I can't find the soul in that.”
Dylan's music, the lyrics, and the subject matter are often intense, he admits. “It isn't forced though. It isn't contrived. It is tapped energy. I play hard because I feel deeply about what I write and sing about. When I perform, that is the real rush. That is when I can share the moment, the energy with an audience. That is my favorite part of work.” If there is a torch passed down from the troubadours and creative greats of the past, Dylan Patrick, a musician on the rise from anonymity, will carry it and protect it as he chases the next microphone, and the next opportunity. |
